Without a doubt the most common question ladies ask me when they book onto my classes is “What do I wear?”

So I thought I’d write a little post to help answer the question and help new ladies feel comfortable in class.

Comfort.

A very important factor for me is that you feel comfortable in class and don’t feel pressured to wear anything you’re not comfortable in so first of all pick something you feel comfortable in.  Don’t feel the need to rush out and buy a new outfit, your fave leggings and t-shirt will be fine!

Equally, if you want to turn up in leotard and tights and show us your Fame moves, also very welcome!  This class is all about feeling great and having fun.

Make sure it is something you can move freely in, no jeans or anything too restrictive.

Safety.

As a fitness instructor it is important to me that I run a safe class, a key feature of this is footwear.  In order to minimise the risk of injury and enable you to enjoy a safe workout it is important that you wear closed, secure footwear.

Please no sandals or heels.  Pumps or trainers are ideal.  If you plan on staying long term, dance trainers are best as the split sole enables safer turns and less pressure on the knees.

Warmth.

It is important that we warm up effectively and so in the winter months, it is advisable to wear a hoodie or similar during warm ups and then remove it when you feel warm enough.

Accessories.

Some of my ladies bring a towel and I recommend that all ladies bring a bottle of water to enable you to remain comfortable and hydrated during the class. All venues have kitchens where you can refill water bottles.

Recommendations.

Some of my favourite places for fitness wear are listed below.  If you would like anymore help or advice please get in touch – jo@dancea.co.uk

Just Strong.

This is a specialist fitness wear supplier, similar styles to Fabletics but without the subscription.  You can use my code JOEDENSANG10 to get a 10% discount. Their products are more expensive but very good quality! I often wear their leggings to teach my classes.

Decathalon.

I’ve recently discovered Decathalon for dance and fitness wear and it’s got a great selection and their own brand items are very cheap! Great place to shop if you don’t want to spend too much at first.

Dance Direct.

This is where I shop for all of my dance wear, I go to ballet class and always purchase my leotard and tights from here.  Also a great place to purchase dance trainers.
